Position: CNC Lathe Operator
Shift: 2nd Shift & 3rd Shift
Pay: Up to $31 HOUR
Key Responsibilities:
- Precision machining of metals such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum to close tolerances (e.g., .0002").
- Inspection of parts during production using precision measuring instruments.
- Monitoring and maintaining machine fluid levels.
- Reading and interpreting process sheets, blueprints, and part sketches to determine machining requirements, dimensional specifications, setup, and operating procedures.
- Editing pre-written programs under supervision when necessary for process improvements and troubleshooting.
- Mounting workpieces in chuck, faceplate, or fixtures.
- Selecting and installing preset tooling in tool posts, turrets, cutters, and automatic tool change magazine as per the specified sequence on the process sheet.
- Observing numerical control displays on the control panel, comparing with data on process sheets to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
- Turning dials and switches to override program and correct machine performance.
- Inspecting the first run piece and spot-checking succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.
- Studying job packets, organizing materials for the next order during cycles to reduce cycle and setup time.
- Pre-setting tools before positioning them in the lathe.
- Setting up and operating another machine tool during machining cycles.
- Setting up and operating CNC machines using setup sheets and written instructions with minimal supervision.
- Utilizing various inspection instruments to check work per print without supervision.
- Possessing knowledge of various cutting tools and the ability to determine various machine speeds and feeds.
- Performing basic equipment maintenance and owning basic hand tools.
- Cross-training on other plant machinery as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2 years of CNC Lathe experience.
- Sound mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using steady rest.
- Ability to perform machine setup, including installing proper chuck jaws and tooling.
- Basic understanding of equipment and processes in the area of responsibility.
- Ability to read precision measuring equipment.
- Basic blueprint reading skills.
- Basic programming knowledge or experience.
- Basic set-up capabilities.
- Basic tooling knowledge.
- Basic understanding of feeds and speeds.
- Ability to inspect work and meet quality requirements.
- Basic understanding of gearing terminology.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at time.
