Controller (CFO Track) Commercial Concrete Construction | $60M Revenue | Louisville, KY | Full Time, Onsite Target Compensation: $250,000 Reports to: President ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY Our client is a well established commercial concrete contractor in Louisville doing $60M in annual revenue, with a plan to reach $200M within 3 to 4 years. The finance function has served the business well but was built for a smaller company. The CFO seat is open. They need a Controller who can own the numbers today and build a finance and accounting department that can support $200M. Delivering that platform is the path to CFO. This is not a maintenance role. You will inherit a lean, relationship driven accounting team and turn it into a scalable finance organization with the processes, systems, and people to support more than three times the current revenue. WHAT YOU WILL DO Core Accounting and Reporting • Own the full monthly close, general ledger, and financial statements, and cut close time to 10 business days or less • Run percentage of completion revenue recognition (ASC 606, cost to cost) and produce an accurate monthly WIP schedule • Manage over and under billings, retainage, change orders, and job fade and gain analysis • Oversee AIA pay applications (G702/G703), lien waivers, and billing compliance • Oversee payroll, including certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting where applicable • Manage the annual audit or review and get the company audit ready • Handle sales and use tax, 1099s, and coordinate with the outside CPA on tax planning Finance and Capital • Build and own the annual budget, rolling forecast, and 13 week cash flow • Manage banking relationships, line of credit, and covenant compliance • Own the surety relationship and deliver the WIP and financial packages that drive bonding capacity • Deliver job level and division level profitability reporting to ownership and project managers • Lead equipment fleet accounting, including capex planning, lease vs. buy analysis, and equipment cost allocation to jobs Build and Scale • Assess people, process, and technology and deliver a 90 day and 12 month roadmap • Rationalize the current stack (ComputerEase, QuickBooks, Procore): eliminate duplicate entry, tighten the Procore to accounting integration, and lead the move to a scalable construction ERP when the business outgrows it • Document and standardize processes and controls: AP, AR, job setup, cost coding, purchasing, and approvals • Build job costing discipline between field, project management, and accounting so margins are visible in real time, not at job close • Hire, develop, and restructure the team, including AP/AR, payroll, project accountants, and a future Assistant Controller • Serve as a strategic partner to the President and ownership on pricing, backlog, growth, and capital planning WHAT YOU BRING • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 5+ years at the Controller level or equivalent • Required: construction accounting experience; commercial or self perform subcontractor background strongly preferred • Deep command of WIP, POC revenue recognition, job costing, and surety reporting • ComputerEase, QuickBooks, and Procore experience strongly preferred; ERP migration experience a major plus • Proven track record of transforming an informal or founder built finance function into a scalable one • Experience managing audits, bank relationships, and bonding programs • A builder's mindset: equally comfortable reconciling accounts and redesigning the department • Credibility with owners, project managers, and field leadership WHY THIS ROLE • Defined path to CFO: build the finance platform that supports $200M and the title comes with it • CFO level compensation from day one • Direct partnership with the President and a real seat at the table • A rare chance to build a construction finance function during a period of rapid growth
