CNC Lathe Machinist

Shift: 1st Shift 
Pay: $21 Hour 

Job Description:

As a CNC Lathe Machinist, you will be responsible for machining metals, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, to close tolerances. Your primary duties include setting up and operating CNC machines, reading process sheets, blueprints, and sketches, and inspecting parts during production using precision measuring instruments. Additionally, you will be required to pre-set tools, perform machine setup, and ensure the quality of the finished products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Work to close tolerances (i.e., .0002").
  2. Machine metals, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  3. Inspect parts during production using precision measuring instruments.
  4. Read process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to determine machining requirements.
  5. Mount workpieces in chuck, faceplate, or fixtures.
  6. Verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds using numerical control displays.
  7. Override program and correct machine performance as needed.
  8. Pre-set tools before positioning them in the lathe.
  9. Set up and operate other machine tools during machining cycles.
  10. Operate CNC machines with minimal supervision, following set-up sheets and written instructions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. 2 years of CNC Lathe experience.
  3. Sound mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Experience using steady rest.
  6. Ability to perform machine set-up, including installing chuck jaws and tooling.
  7. Basic understanding of equipment and processes in the area of responsibility.
  8. Ability to read precision measuring equipment.
  9. Basic blueprint reading skills.
  10. Basic programming knowledge or experience.
  11. Basic set-up capabilities.
  12. Basic tooling knowledge.
  13. Basic understanding of feeds and speeds.
  14. Ability to inspect work and meet quality requirements.
  15. Basic understanding of gearing terminology.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Prolonged periods standing.
  2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
