Admitting-Discharge Manager

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Admitting-Discharge Manager to oversee Patient Access Services (PAS), including Admitting, Discharge, Referrals, Authorizations, and Scheduling. This role is responsible for leading teams, improving processes, ensuring compliance, and driving high-quality patient access operations in a hospital setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of Admitting, Discharge, Referrals, Authorizations, and Scheduling
  • Manage and support Admitting/Discharge Supervisors and staff
  • Resolve insurance, billing, and coding-related issues
  • Address and resolve patient complaints professionally and efficiently
  • Develop and monitor policies, procedures, and quality assurance practices
  • Track and report on KPIs and operational performance metrics
  • Serve as a liaison between departments to improve workflow and communication
  • Lead strategic planning and process improvement initiatives

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • 5+ years of Admitting/Discharge supervisory experience in a hospital or physician office setting
  • Experience with scheduling, referrals, and patient access operations
  • Prior experience in a salaried (FLSA-exempt) leadership role

Systems

  • Proficient with EPIC and UKG Kronos Workforce

Additional Requirements

  • 1+ year Emergency Department experience (Trauma, Adult, and/or Pediatrics)
  • 1+ year Main Admitting experience (hospital, ASU, or outpatient departments)
  • Experience managing multiple schedules and teams
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed

    • Admitting and discharge workflows
    • Insurance verification, authorizations, and payer requirements
    • Medical terminology and basic coding principles
  • Ability to:
    • Lead teams and manage performance
    • Resolve complex patient access and admitting issues
    • Deliver excellent customer service
    • Analyze data and improve operational efficiency
    • Communicate effectively across teams and departments

Work Environment

  • Hospital-based office setting
  • Extended periods of sitting and computer use
  • Light lifting (up to 10 lbs)
