Fusion HCR | Job Description Position: Senior Database Administrator (DBA)
Location: Hybrid – Candidate must reside in one of the following hub locations: Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Phoenix, AZ; or San Francisco, CA
The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) will play a critical role in building the foundation for the client’s future data strategy. This is not just a reactive operations role — the Senior DBA will drive proactive architectural decisions, lead database optimization efforts, and partner with BI, Data Engineering, and Application teams to standardize and scale how data is managed and governed. This role is ideal for someone ready to modernize and lead database operations that support mission-critical systems at scale.
Essential Job Functions
Own the full lifecycle of database administration for mission-critical systems (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, cloud-native DBs).
Partner with BI, Data Engineering, and Enterprise Application teams to support scalable, standardized database usage.
Lead performance tuning, index optimization, and capacity planning initiatives.
Design and implement backup strategies, HA/DR solutions, monitoring, and security controls.
Support database provisioning and automation efforts aligned to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD strategies.
Develop standards, documentation, and operational runbooks to scale institutional knowledge.
Guide long-term data architecture, governance, and compliance best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on database administration experience across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or equivalent platforms.
Strong background in performance tuning, capacity planning, and query optimization.
Familiarity with infrastructure automation and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Data, BI, and Application Engineering teams.
Demonstrated ability to standardize, document, and scale DB management practices.

Work Environment
Hybrid role – candidates must be based in Seattle, Boston, Phoenix, or San Francisco.
