Are you an experienced Workers' Compensation Underwriter with a deep understanding of the trucking and transportation industry? Do you excel at evaluating complex risks and developing strategic pricing? We're looking for a seasoned professional to join our dynamic team and help drive smarter risk decisions in the transportation sector.
About the Role
In this pivotal role, you'll leverage your expertise to assess intricate risks, craft effective pricing strategies, and ensure regulatory compliance. You'll play a key part in contributing to our company's profitability while ensuring top-tier client satisfaction.
What You'll Do
  • Underwrite new and renewal submissions specifically for trucking and transportation accounts.
  • Assess risk comprehensively, analyzing loss history, operational details, driver exposure, safety protocols, and DOT compliance.
  • Assign appropriate classification codes and develop strategic pricing in line with company and regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with brokers, agents, and internal teams to gather necessary information and negotiate policy terms.
  • Mentor and guide junior underwriters and team members, sharing your valuable insights.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging trends, and recommend proactive strategic actions.
  • Ensure all underwriting decisions adhere to internal policies and state-level workers’ compensation regulations.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of all underwriting decisions and communications.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings as needed.

What You Bring
  • 4+ years of workers’ compensation underwriting experience, with at least 2 years specifically focused on the trucking and transportation sectors.
  • Strong understanding of workers’ compensation laws, NCCI classification codes, and rating systems.
  • Familiarity with trucking operations, driver safety programs, and DOT/CAB report analysis.
  • Proven ability to evaluate complex risk profiles and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry-standard underwriting tools.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Professional designations (WCP, TRIP, ARM, CPCU) are a definite plus.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday (Hybrid Flexibility Available) Travel: Occasional, for industry events or client meetings
